Teijin Limited's chemical recycling system reduces polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol while removing additives and processing chemicals. Dimethyl terephthalate can be treated further to obtain terephthalic acid. The recovered raw materials have a higher purity than those produced from oil and are suitable for the manufacture of new PET products. The recycling system complements existing technology that recycles PET bottles into fibers.
