A large percentage of fiber waste generated during yarn manufacture is contaminated with spin finish oil Conventional recycling processes that consist of grinding, melting, filtration, and pelletizing do not contribute to the percentage of spin finish in fiber waste. Blending recycled resin containing oil in small amounts with virgin resin and washing off the spin finish oil before pelletization reduces waste contamination. Erema's new compact cutting machine/compactor/extruder processes fibers under vacuum to further reduce contamination. Drying and melting without oxidation reduces decoloration. Hot drying under vacuum reduces viscosity loss and allows the reuse of secondary raw materials.
