Fiber Properties of Selected Cotton Lines Obtained by Mutagenesis.

An investigation into the macrostructure and microstructure of cotton fibers from selected lines obtained by mutagenesis exposed imbibed seed to a 3 percent by volume concentration of ethyl methanesulfonate and examined the physical properties of four mutant lines, a parent variety, and a control fiber. Researchers replicated the mutant lines three times in the field and replicated the parent line and control fiber six times. High volume instrument, Advanced Fiber Information System, scanning electron microscopic, cross section image, and Xray diffraction analyses established that the TTU271 line possessed the best balanced fiber properties. 6 refs.
