Studies performed by Monsanto demonstrate no correlation between short fiber and genetically modified cotton plants. Short fiber problems experienced by growers during the past two or three years resulted from hot and dry growing conditions. Tests on 19,000 cotton bales in 1999 and 778,000 bales in 2000 divided high volume instrument data into varietal groups and looked for differences among Roundup Ready, Bollgard, Bollgard with Roundup Ready, Buctril-tolerant, and conventional cotton. All varietal groups averaged out at acceptable levels and showed little differences among them.
