Microfibres has been very much the in-word in the textile news over the last few years. For the consumer they have offered new products with new properties. For the producer, accustomed to producing commodity fibres, microfibres have offered the opportunity of producing speciality fibres with marketable brand names for sale at premium prices. As a result, there have been many articles on microfibres over the last few years, but many of them have been written from the point of view of particular fibre producers. This paper is aiming to review the likely benefits, the methods of production and the commercial importance of microfibres.
