Trevira: Polyester for flame-retardant textiles

A short review is presented of the production of Trevira fibres. These are used in apparel textiles, household fabrics and automotive textiles. Trevira CS flame-resistant fibres appeared on the market over 20 years ago, and their sales have increased 50% in the period 1995-2000. 95% of these are in Europe. Company data indicate that there is only slight competition from Italy, Japan and Korea. Annual sales of Trevira CS fabrics have run at more than 800 millions m². The end-uses of the fibres are briefly indicated.
