This paper, (first presented at the CITM 2000 Forum in Beijing, October 2000) summarizes the situation of China's textile industry and discusses short-term development plans. The pace of technical reform needs to be accelerated, making full use of the existing system of state bands to finance investment. The author advocates the adoption of key technologies in fibre manufacturing, yarn spinning, and weaving.
