World cellulosic fiber capacity remains stable. Production increased 0.7 percent from 2000-2001. Several manufacturers have abandoned cellulosic fiber production, whereas others have expanded and entered new collaborations, resulting in a concentration of production. The growth of cellulosic fiber production was highest in the United States, the People's Republic of China, India, and Indonesia. An overview of the current state of the cellulosic fiber and textile industry addresses expansions and withdrawals, new collaborations, the European Union Competition Commission's rejection of CVC Capital Partners' acquisition of the majority of Lenzing AG shares, the 70th anniversary of Asahi Kasei Corporation's Asahi Bemberg fiber, a joint marketing venture for Enka Viscose filament yarns between Enka and Kyokuyo, Mitsubishi Rayon's efforts to elevate the status of Soalon triacetate filament yarns, Teijin Limited's efforts to strengthen its acetate business, product development at Acordis, Unitika Textiles' Renaming of its lyocell products to SyLPH, Lenzing's lyocell low fibrillation fibers, Hanil Lyocell, Daiwabo Rayon's rayon staple fiber activities, and applications for Shikibo's Celgreen modal fibers.
