Zyex Limited's heat resistant hollow polyetheretherketone monofilament fibers have applications in the manufacture of light weight, abrasion resistant braids. Void area accounts for up to 80 percent of the monofilament fiber volume. Outside diameters range from 0.07-0.80 millimeter. Void fractions ranging from 10-40 percent of the cross directional area provide abrasion resistance as good as or better than that of solid monofilaments. Flattening the monofilaments during final braiding increases cover. Heat setting the flattened profiles allows for the manufacture of high cover braids with good surface abrasion resistance that weight less and cost less than braids made with solid monofilaments.
