United States manmade fiber shipments declined 14 percent to 8.18 billion pounds in 2001. Face fiber carpet denier shipments declined 10.3 percent, and textile fiber shipments for apparel and noncarpet home furnishings fell 19.1 percent. Polyester textile filament shipments fell 17.2 percent, polyester staple shipments fell 14.3 percent, nylon carpet filament shipments declined 7.5 percent, coarse industrial filament shipments declined 23 percent, and polyester filament shipments fell 16 percent. Tables and graphs provide data on United States manmade fiber shipments from 1998-2001 by fiber; United States manufactured fiber stock to shipments ratio from 1995-2001; and percentage change in production, shipments, imports, and stocks of fiber products in 2000 and 2001.
