The Uster IntelliGin process control system improves fiber quality and profits. IntelliGin, used commercially since 1998, responds to quality variations of incoming seed cotton as it passes through measuring stations, bypass valves, and precleaning and final cleaning equipment. The IntelliGin results in an average increase of 17.3 pounds per bale (1.24 percent increase). Tests showed that 49 percent of IntelliGin processed cotton classed a staple length of 34 or better compared with 26 percent for conventionally ginned cotton. IntelliGin's higher quality fiber with no grade and leaf decrement improves cotton grower's profits and builds trust between growers and ginners.
