Experiments manufactured fabrics with fire resistance properties from air jet spun yarns consisting of Nomex filament in the core and flame resistant viscose and cotton in the sheath. Core to sheath ratios varied from 20:80 to 40:60. Fabric finishes included a durable fire resistant finish (Flacavon WP) applied by pad batch cure. Tests evaluated the fire resistant and comfort properties of the fabrics. Fabrics manufactured with core yarns showed better fire resistance than those manufactured with 100 percent cotton or fire resistant viscose fibers. The fire resistant finish decreased fabric strength and air permeability but increased stiffness and crease recovery. 7 refs.
