A database of more than 2,000 variables can be used to develop reference tables for grading fabric defects. Errors are classified as small, medium, and large, and appropriate seals are placed on bolts of fabric to indicate the location and extent of the defects. Standards for various levels of defect per meter of fabric allow textile manufactures and their customers to accept, reject, of negotiate discounts for products. A grade of small describes a defect affecting 10 centimeters or less of fabric. A grade of medium describes a defect affecting 10-70 centimeters of fabric. A grade of large describes a defect affecting more than 70 centimeters of fabric.
