Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) distribution in paper sheet affects paper properties and printing qualities. A technique combining the FIB method with EPMA after iodine labeling of PVA revealed the interaction between substrate structure and PVA and teh distribution of the PVA that penetrated the paper structure. The distribution differences of the PVA that penetrated the paper structure affected the liquid permeability of the oil based ink printed on the paper. 17 refs.
