Taking as axiomatic that the market for nylon fibres is likely to remain static in volume over the period 2000 to 2010, the author examines what this means for a number of significant producer countries. The countries listed in a table are USA/Canada, Western Europe, China, Taiwan, and Japan. Three major markets, those of the US, Western Europe and Asia are discussed in detail. In all these considerations and in the table the difference in the fortunes of PA 6 and PA 66 are noted. China shows the most potential for production growth, especially in industrial filament yarn and textile filament yarn, but elsewhere the general trend is for low or slow growth. For the world as a whole only industrial filament yarn is seen to have significant growth potential. Staple fibres are forecast to decline slowly at a rate of 2% annually according to the table.
