Re-positioning acrylic fibers for the new millennium

The technical efforts undertaken by Acordis Acrylic Fibers, UK, to reposition its speciality fibres are described. The performance benefits of the three functional fibres introduced by Acordis in the last 3 years are discussed, with reference to Outlast themoregulatory fibres, Amicor and Amicor Pure, which offer complete protection from the growth of bacteria and fungi on fabrics, even when used at low blend levels, and Courtelle Micro, which offers excellent moisture management properties and increases comfort. It is stressed that the fibres of the future will have to offer all the important textile properties, whilst being able to respond to stimulation from the human body and external sources.
