Rieter's new CUBIcan system automates plant production from drawing to roving. The CUBIcan system consists of the RSB851 drawing frame, an automatic guided vehicle (AGV), and the R1 rotor spinning machine. The CUBIcan system uses rectangular cans that better utilize floorspace and creel areas than cylindrical cans. The RSB851 drawing frame is creeled with conventional rund cans but belivers its sliver to rectangular cans. Each can is then doffed automatically and placed on a storage rack for subsequent pickup by the AGV. The AGV does not require plant floors to be altered to accept the system. It is optically guided, and the changing of its path requires only the alteration of the tape or painted stripe on the existing floor. The AGV is computer controlled. One row of CUBIcans at the R1 rotor spinning machine eliminates the need to switch cans from back to front, crossed ends, and acres of round cans in storage areas.
