Friction twisting machines impart twist to the yarn by using internal or external frictional surfaces. Internal frictional surfaces include friction twisting brushes. External frictional surfaces include the stacked disk friction device, which has become the most widely used device in the yarn industry. In addition, two types of nip twisting systems have been introduced: the double belt friction twister and the overlapping rings twister. Most modern twisting machines feature electronic control systems and online yarn monitoring systems. 6 refs.
