The origins, extent and formation of overlong fibres, the problems they cause in the spinning process and measures whcih can be taken to improve thins are discussed in relation to spinning synthetic staple fibres. The best solution is to take preventive action to avoid the problems. For part III see abstract 93 W/04673.
