Cone Mills has installed Zellweger Uster's Polyguard yarn clearing and monitoring system at its open end spinning mills in Forest City and Henrietta, North Carolina. The information provided by these systems has allowed Cone Mills to improve yarn and fabric quality. The Polyguard system provides spectrograms and information about imperfections, the coefficient of variation, and Classimat faults from a single machine or a group of rotors to a central workstation. The system allows technicians to react immediately to specific quality problems. The system has also reduces parts replacement costs by predicting component wear.
