An in-depth analysis of compact spinning machinery and the PLY fil spinning system reveals the these alternatives to the ring spinning process may be presented in market ready versions at ITMA 1995. The advantages of compact spinning include improved yarn strength and elongation, better IPI values, drastically reduced hairiness, considerably improved abrasion resistance, and the possiblity of higher draft ratios. The PLY fil system comprises sliver preparation and simultaneous double yarn assembly winding onto cross wound packages, and incorporates a unit that automatically doffs and clears twist packages. PLY fil machines produce short and long staple yarns of wool, acrylic, acrylic/wool, and polyester/wool for worsted fabrics. The benefits of plied yarns made with the PLY fil system include enhanced evenness, elimination of torque, higher strength and elongation, and higher resistance to abrasion and other mechanical stresses.
