Testing with high volume instrument (HVI) equipment and the development of new microfibers are the most important recent developments in cotton spinning system technology. Ring and rotor spinning continue to be the dominant spinning techniques. Yarn manufacturers use rotor spinning to produce medium and fine count yarns and ring spinning to produce yarns with coarser counts. The spinning process has become more controlled. Spinning machines can be adjusted to produce different yarn counts and to process different fibers by simple component modifications. Specialized production has placed greater demands on the materials produced by the combing, opening, cleaning, and blending machines. Automation of the combing machine and better regulation of the drawframe have reduced the incidence of irregularities. New yarn preparation equipment uses sophisticated control systems to continuously optimize bale setup, blending, carding, and cleaning.
