Cover spun (hollow spun) yarn, a core type of fancy yarn, comprises a core of spun yarn (Usually cotton, viscose, or wool) and a cover of continuous filament yarn (usually nylon, polyester/silk, or acrylic). An introduction to cover spinning outlines the manufacturing process, describes the hollow spindle unit and winding unit, discusses suitable raw materials, and identifies the properties of hollow spun yarns and the fabrics made from them. In manufacturing cover spun yarns, conventional roving is placed in the creel of a ringframe, the drafted materials pass from the front roller into the hollow pindle, and the multifilament or monofilament yarn package enters the hollow spindle, follows the peripheral path, and wraps around the staple fiber. Suggestions for improving the cover spinning process include minimizing roller nip and spindle distance and matching the delivery speed of the front roller to the winding rate.
