The development of a new high-quality spinning system by Ems-Inventa AG of Domat/Ems, Switzerland, is described. The central quenching system devised for the process and the associated spin pack are characterized. The central quenching system has a capacity of 2000 g/min and is highly economical. It features microfibre spinning, good fibre qualities and high flexibility. Computer simulation of the melt spinning process is described.
