At ITMA 1995, the developments in assembly winding machines focused on precision winding to produce higher packing densities and greater package weights. Competition remained strong between single yarn and assembly wound yarn package systems. In the winding sector, automation progressed for point of sale makeup, including precision length measurement and electronic control systems to promote ease of operation and facilitate additive application. Because ring twisting is important in only a few specialty sectors, most innovations in the twisting sector occurred in two-for-one twisting machines and balloonless twisting systems. The two types of two-for-one twisters targeted two distinct markets: a simple narrow machine that is yarn specific for high volume production and a more technologically sophisticated twisting machine for versatile use and specialty products. Following research confirming the benefits of increasing the moisture content of cotton yarns, such manufacturers as Welker and Xorella presented upgraded auxiliary equipment for steaming and humidifying yarn packages.
