Characteristics of Acrylic-Cotton Yarns Produced on Ring and Rotor Spinning Systems.

Researchers compared the characteristics of acrylic/cotton blend yarns spun on rotor and ring spinning systems. Acrylic/cotton blend rotor spun yarns had greater evenness and less strength and abrasion resistance than comparable ring spun yarns. The difference in tenacity for ring and rotor spun yarns was less for coarse yarns. Increasing the twist factor significantly increased the abrasion resistance for Rotor spun yarns. However, increasing the twist factor did not result in increased abrasion resistance for 70/30 acrylic/cotton blend ring spun yarns. To improve tenacity and abrasion resistance, researchers concluded that the acrylic content in the fiber blend should be greater than 50 percent. 10 refs.
