Researchers measured stress distribution in yarn packages wound on a flanged bobbin. As the smaller Young's modulus decreased, the radial load compressing the barrel of the flanged bobbin increased. The increased rate of the radial compressive stress decreased with accumulated yarn layering. As the smaller Young's modulus decreased, the axial load expanding the flanges of the bobbin increased. The increasing rate of the axial expanding load increased with accumulated yarn layering. The radial load compressing the barrel of the bobbin proved larger than the axial load expanding its flanges. As the smaller Young's modulus decreased, the flanged bobbin reached increased deformation. Maximum yarn deformation was generated near the root of the flanges. 17 refs.
