The importance of polyester fibres in the short-staple sector is growing. These fibres are processed primarily in the form of blends with cotton and synthetic fibres, through a certain amount is also spun unblended, ie 100% polyester. The effect of the particular properties of the polyester fibres on spinning behaviour and yarn properties is examined, in particular the effect of fibre length and fibre fineness on yarn quality and spinning limit depending on the spinning method used - ring, jet, rotor and friction. Results show that friction spinning is not suitable for spinning 100% polyester. The best results are obtained with ring spinning, with rotor and jet machines also producing acceptable yarns.
