The effects of lint cleaning on cotton fiber and yarn quality were studied. Rieter's Monocylinder preparation machinee, with or without one or two ERM B5/5 units, were used to process each lot of cotton with one, two, or three major cleaning points. Normal and aggressive cardings were performed on each lot. The effect of the number of cleaning points on fiber and yarn properties, the quantity of waste extracted, and rotor spinning performance was measured. The effect of carding on the fiber length distribution in sliver form, yarn properties, and rotor spinning performance was measured.
