Automated materials handling equipment for spinning preparation can reduce costs and increase competitiveness. Criteria for designing a materials transport system for spinning preparation include process- and production-related factors and machine flexibility. The design and advantages of floor-mounted conveyors, suspended conveyors, mechanically guided vehicles, and contactiessly guided vehicles, are discussed. The Canny One Ssytem, which transports cans between cards and drawframes, consists of transport vehicles, an underground installation for guiding the vehicles, and a computer. A two-drawframe link-up system for can transport between the first and second drawframes, and a bale storage and bale feeding system are described. 7 refs.
