SIRO-SPUN CHARACTERISTICS.

The effects of spinning parameters on the properties of cotton yarn spun on a ring spinning machine and a Siro-spinning machine were examined. The ring spinning machine (Spintester) was modifed during the test to perform like a Siro-spinning machine. The ring rail scale, total draft, twist, break draft, and spindle speed were varied. Yarn count, twist, tenacity, breaking elongation, Uster evenness and hairiness, thick and thin places, and neps were measured. Tenacity depended on yarn count for both ring spun and Siro-spun yarns. The breaking elongation of Siro-spun yarns was greater than that of the ring spun yarns. There was little or no difference in evenness. Siro-spun yarn had fewer neps and was less hairy than the ring spun yarn.
