Systems for waste removal from cards and the removal of dust from the mill environment are discussed. Waste removal from cards can be accomplished by placing a transport ventilator inside the card to collect waste. Improved fibrous waste and dust removal can be accomplished by using a centralized system to extract waste and dust from the card, the internal filter box, and the lickerin. The design of a centralized system for removing fibrous waste and dust from carding machines is discussed. Filter technology used to remove dust from mills is also reviewed. Tests of dust filters were conducted to ensure that dust removal performance met OSHA standards.
