New developments in cotton and wool processing include fiber testing methods, spinning mill equipment, and worsted spinning equipment. Such instruments as the AFIS, ITV dust and trash analyzer, and Quickspin make possible the determination of fiber properties relevant to final yarn quality. Spinning mill developments include the bale opening machine, integration of cleaning stages, regulation of blowroom production rates to meet cardroom demand, reprocessing of blowroom waste, and high efficieny autoleveler drawing machines. New wire clothing for the flats and high shoulder wires for the cylinder improve carding efficiencies. The substitution of splicing for the knot results in a 2 percent net efficiency increase in weaving. Developments in the chain gill box and the high production finisher have led to performance gains in worsted spinning.
