Cotton/manmade fiber blends can be created at all stages of short staple spinning. The various methods include blend mixing, tuft blending, lap mixing, mixing at combing, and mixing of slivers. In bale mixing, intensive blending occurs in the UNImix after different bales are fed at the opener. The UNIblend A80 blends the fibers in tuft blending. Mixing of slivers is used for cotton/polyester blending. The fibers are blended at the drawing machine. This process does not provide a completely homogeneous product. Mixing at combing makes it possible to use only one drawing passage prior to spinning. Cotton used in blended yarns must be clean because neps and trash are visible in blended yarns. The Hi.Per.Spin-Process allows ring spinning of blended yarns without thermal damage to the manmade fibers. This process reaches speeds of up to 20,000 rpm. 5 refs.
