Raw materials represent the major share of yarn prices in cotton spinning mills. To reduce costs in cotton yarn spinning, mills must reduce the price of fibers as components of a cotton blend. Appropriate computer based information and control systems effectively monitor and control yarn manufacturing stages. Researchers developed a model of an advanced production planning system for cotton spinning. Accurate prediction of yarn quality enables the optimization of fiber mix and minimizes raw material costs. Changes to the planning system will include analyses for ring and open end rotor spun cotton yarn. 10 refs.
