Researchers studied force and elongation behavior during tensile loading of ring and rotor spun yarns. Higher tensile yarn strength resulted in greater resistance to deformation during processing. The ring spun yarns offered slightly higher maximum tensile strength and maximum force/elongation values than rotor spun yarns. Research showed that maximum tensile strength and maximum force/elongation could be varied considerably in ply yarn construction. Ply yarns offered external and internal levelness due to their twist. Resistance to deformation in mercerized yarns resulted in lower residual deformation and increased dimensional stability. 1 ref.
