Swift Spinning's East Columbus, South Carolina, plant, which is designed to manufacture knitting yarns in the Ne 18-40 count range, features extensive production and quality monitoring, maintenance, state-of-the-art Rieter equipment, well planned automation processes, and a well trained workforce. The plant averages three breaks per 1,000 spindle hours while manufacturing Ne 30 yarns at spindle speeds of up to 18,200 rpm. It manufactures 340,000 pounds of yarns per week. Swift uses Cotton Incorporated's engineered fiber selection software to calculate optimum bale laydowns. The plant's testing laboratory equipment includes Zellweger Uster's AFIS instrument with Autojet, the UT3 evenness tester, and Tensojet. The plant is almost completely automated. Swift uses online monitoring, including the Sliverdata, Conedata, and Rotordata systems, to improve yarn quality.
