This paper reviews recent developments in jointing up for broken yarn ends, including; Latex-jointing; filament-wrapping; mechanical splicing; and pneumatic splicing. In particular, it evaluates the benefits of the pneumatic yarn splicer, which is now capable of splicing not only continuous filament yarns but also yarn produced by both long and short staple fibres under nearly all the spinning systems. The paper outlines, with the support of diagrams, the splicing process and identifies a range of advantages, including, improved yarn and fabric quality, and improved process efficiency.
