The use of high performance ceramics (also known as fine ceramics, advanced certamics of technical ceramics) in the production of yarns is reviewed. These materials, which are made of fully synthetic materials, are used in the production of a range of components including ring/traveller systems, yarn guides, friction disks for false twist texturing and open-end rotor navels. The properties of high performance ceramics are discussed in relation to the requirements of fibre contact surfaces.
