Scutching tow can be broken down enzymatically for later use in cotton spinning. the purpose of this project was to identify and analyse the degradation products which are formed, in order to interpret the effects of the eznyme complexes examined. The liquors were examined with the aid of HPLC, photometry and titration. On the basis of the results it could be determined whether an enzyme complex hyrolyses the adhesive substance of the material or if severe degradation of the cellulosic structure and thus fibre damage takes place.
