Roller lapping is an important factor in the performance of spinning and influences stenter efficiency to a great extent. A new method for measuring lapping is proposed. It is independent of the time of observation and the number of spindles observed. It was found that combed yarns exhibited the lowest warp frequency, almost one twentieth of that exhibited by carded yarns. The wrapping tendency exhibited by polyester-viscose rayon blended yarns was the highest and varied widely between mills. Harder cots, higher top roller diamer and closer apron clearance generally help to reduce lapping. Immature fibres lead to roller lapping which can be controlled by applying appropriate spray oil. Lapping due to high wax content in cotton could be controlled by providing heating lamps above the feed lattice in the blow room or at the creel in the speed frame.
