Spinning mills can take several measures to reduce production costs. Raw materials form 50-65 percent of the cost of the finished 70-88 percent. Mills should calculate yarn realization rates every month. Spindle utilization rates should reach 96 percent. A 1 percent increase in spindle utilization decreases costs 18 rupees per spindle per year. Wages and salaries account for 12 percent of total mill costs. All mills need to set department norms for power consumption. An equation allows mills to determine the total expected power units per month and compare them with actual units. Feederwise meters help pinpoint high power consumption areas. Administration usually accounts for 5 percent and interest and depreciation account for 4 percent of total costs.
