Torque-Balanced Singles Knitting Yarns Spun by Unconventional Systems. Part 1: Cotton Rotor Spun Yarn.

Research on the manufacture of torque balanced singles knitting yarns spun on conventional systems focused on the development and application of a yarn modification process used in rotor spinning cotton yarn. Experiments measured and compared the properties and performance of both parent and modified yarns, including yarn tensile propeties, as well as of fabrics manufactured from these yarns, including hand, air permeability, bursting strength, and pill resistance. With the modified yarns, the spirality of jersey knit fabrics decreased significantly. The process was most effective in the manufacture of medium and coarse count yarns. 21 refs.
