A study measured the fiber leading end density of blended sliver composed of long and short fibers and obtained cross sectional numbers using a sliver diagram. Researchers analyzed the sliver structure along the sliver axis and examined the influence of various drafting conditions on the sliver structure. In all regions along the sliver axis, variations in the fiber leading end density were greater for the short fiber component than for the long fiber component. Regions where the sliver became thicker contained a larger number of short fibers. Regions where the sliver became thinner contained a larger number of long fibers. Increasing draft ratio and roller gage increased the intensity of this phenomenon. The correlation coefficient of the cross sectional number of long and short fibers increased as draft ratio and roller gage increased. 9 refs.
