Lenzing Lyocell considers industrial prospects for solvent-spun fibre

At the official opening of Lenzing Lyocell GmbH and Co. KG's fibre production facility in Heiligenkreuz, Austria, AG, Dr Heinrich Stepniczka (the Director General of the parent group Lenzing) confirmed the innovative technical applications for Lyocell that are beginning to be evaluated. The company will concentrate its marketing efforts on international high fashion but is interested in several possible industrial applications. These include: filtration media for the oil industry, hospitals and hygiene applications; the possibility of lyocell films; nonwovens; the use of the fibre to spin strong, open-end yarns for various types of industrial fabrics. The company is using its original Lyocell pilot line for research and development and investigations into industrial applications. The productive capacity of this line has been increased from 180 to 700 tonnes.
