Cut-resistant yarn

Hoechst Celanese Corp. has created a yarn that is resistant to both cutting and choppig. Made from at least two different kinds of fibre: the first has a modulus of more than 300 gpd and a tensile strength of more than 10 gpd; the second is a semicrystalline fibre filled with particles, gloves made using this yarn have a softer handle and result in a glove that is less stiff and less dense than usual protective gloves. Becasue the yarn comprises of more than one type of fibre the gloves have a higher than expected cut-resistance. This article discusses their properties.
