Remarkable success has been achieved in recent years in the field of high-speed spinning. It is now possible to produce yarn at spindle speeds far in excess of 22 000 rpm. Most attention to date has been focused on the processing of cotton. However, the manufacture of 5.5 million tonnes p.a. of pure man-made yarns also represents a substantial proportion of total yarn production. In this article the manufacture of a PES high-speed ring yarn and its further processing to sophisticated finished products is described.
