The article discusses the importance of quality monitoring during production in yarn spinning mills as well as the assessment of the finished product. The subjects covered include on-line and off-line process monitoring and the application of control charts to assess machine performance with respect to cleaning efficiency, cleanability, neps and nepping potential, nep removal efficiency, fibre damage, machine faults and deterioration in yarn quality. The assessment of the quality of outgoing material is then covered.
