the situation in the egyptian cotton spinning industry was described, beginning with its historical setting. structural changes over time were analyzed. the industry is currently fraught with internal and external problems. internally, machinery has not been renovated sufficiently to keep pace with technological evolution in competing countries. there is a shortage of spare parts. investment lags far behind replacement and new equipment needs. externally, there is strong competition from other fiber-producing countries and from snythetics. the egyptian textile industry has been relatively backward in adopting synthetic fibers. it was noted that in all countries with florishing textile industries, the use of synthetics is an important aspect
