results of an experimental study are presented which show that ring spinning ends down for polyester and 65/35 polyester/cotton blend yarns are lower when the air charge is positive than when it is negative. the increase in ends down with an air charge shift to negative is greater for a polyester/cotton blend than for 100 polyester yarn and greater for a cotton blend with an oil finish than with a solid finish. mechanisms for air charge affecting staple processing are discussed. 7 refs
